Jaisalmer Via Bikaner: Part 3- Desert Camping and Stone of Miracle
After Jaisalmer city tour, it’s time to experience the desert camping. We left for the desert camp in the afternoon in a car. The camp is 45 km from the city. We travel through the beautiful landscapes and various small villages on the roller coaster roads. The drive was smooth and comfortable.
We reached camp in the evening. The camp name is KK Resorts and Camps. A Swiss camp was allotted to us. After checked into the camp we went for the desert safari on camel. But it was disappointed. It was not a desert safari on camel but it was only a camel ride till the sunset point. If we consider the distance it was just 5 minutes camel ride to reach sunset point from the camp. After reaching the sunset point, the camel keeper informed us that the package includes only this if we have to explore the rest we have to pay extra. After some discussion and bargaining we decided to pay extra to explore what is hidden. But this extra payment went in vain, as the area do not justified as a safari, on top of that these seems like artificial dunes and not the real one. After this so-called safari we asked camel-keeper to drop us on the sunset point. The sunset like always is too beautiful but these dunes gave it a picture perfect view. This gave us a little sense of satisfaction. After the sunset, we rode the camel back to the camp.
In the camp the preparation of the cultural program was going on. But the management was not up to the mark. The management showed their incapability to manage the event. After the completion of the preparation and viewers were settled, the program begins. The program was consisted of folk songs and folk dance. It was good but still very well mismanaged. The management was not much bothered about the comfort and concerns of the guests. The motto of the management was much like adjust whatever we gave.
After the cultural program, the dinner was served along with the DJ. It’s better not to talk about the food. The food was not anywhere near to the standard for which Rajasthani food is well known for. If you are not party animal then it’s an issue for you because the DJ was played till 12:00 AM, but if you love to dance then it’s for you to enjoy the stay. For me it was the only best part of the Camp.
One must not miss the sunrise of the desert. It was beautiful, relaxing, breath-taking, magnificent and resplendent. Overall, the morning is very refreshing. Watching the changing colours of sky and sand is amazing and the combination of both is out of the world.
In the morning we returned to the Jaisalmer city. After returning to the city, we still had time left as our return train is in the evening. So we decided to roam the city and explore those areas which were untouched. While wandering in the market we got the opportunity of tasting a cuisine. According to the locals, it was called as ‘Pakwaan’. It was a quite tasty and was worthy to taste.
Another interesting thing we found was a fossil stone. Scientists verified that if you put milk in the glass made from the fossil stone then after 6-7 hours milk will be converted into curd. Also, if you put water in the glass in night and drink that water next morning, it cures various stomach problems.
Now, the time had come to return into our daily lives with our sweet and somewhat salty memories. So we reached railway station, but till then I was completely unaware that still I had to experience something and that was the best thing happened to me. But that incident will be some other day.
